Room Odorisor – What You Need to Know

What’s in a Name?

Room Odorisor are known by several names. “Room Odorisor” is the most common colloquial term (across the English-speaking world) for these products and as such will be given primacy here. This name derives from the popping sound produced by the breaking of the glass mesh “pearls” that were once commonly used as containers. “Alkyl nitrites” is the collective chemical term for the group of substances – including amyl nitrite, butyl nitrite, isobutyl nitrite and others – to which poppers belong. Euphemistic terms for poppers include “room odorisors”, “room aromas”, “leather polish” and others; these names are employed for legal reasons discussed below. Room Odorisor are also often known by associated brand names, the most well known of which being Liquid Gold.

How Are Room Odorisor Taken?

Firstly, note that poppers should not be taken by anyone who suffers with blood pressure or heart issues.

When alkyl nitrites are taken, the fumes from the liquid poppers are inhaled (usually through the nose) either directly from the capsule/bottle or from a piece of soaked cloth. Room Odorisor are only taken by inhalation as they are highly poisonous to ingest – the results of swallowing them can even be fatal. Direct physical contact with the liquid poppers is also best avoided as alkyl nitrites have an irritant effect on the skin; poppers can simply be washed away with water if skin contact does occur.

Quick safety tip when using poppers: alkyl nitrites are highly flammable, so keep poppers away from flames or any source of ignition.

How Does It Feel to Take Room Odorisor?

Although there is some person-to-person variation in the poppers-taking experience, there are many commonalities. Most users experience a rushing feeling within seconds of inhaling as the heart rate increases and blood vessels dilate. A light-headed, excited, or euphoric feeling can last for several minutes, as external stimuli (such as music, lighting, etc.) are enhanced in their experiential impact. As a result, dancing, sex, and other activities are made more immersive and intense by the use of poppers.

Room Odorisor in the Bedroom

When inhaled – usually through the nose – poppers interact with the body’s vasodilators, causing the smooth muscles and sphincters to relax. Consequently, many find the experience of anal sex much improved when poppers are used, as anal penetration is made easier and the variety (and size) of implements that may be used is increased. This effect has garnered particular attention from the gay community for obvious reasons. Inhaling poppers is also well known to increase sexual arousal and disinhibition and to enhance the experience of orgasm, only adding to their popularity for recreational sexual use. Sex is made both more immersive and more intense with poppers.

Quick tip when using poppers in the bedroom: put on your condom BEFORE inhaling poppers, as they can weaken your erection and make applying the condom afterward more difficult.

Room Odorisor Vs Other Drugs

As with most drugs, the frequent use of poppers can lead to bodily resistance, lessening their effect. This can be remedied by a period of abstinence or reduced use. Room Odorisor taking can be habit-forming (as with any action linked to positive experience) but they aren’t physically addictive in the way that some substances, such as nicotine and alcohol, can be.

Using Room Odorisor Alongside Other Drugs

Room Odorisor are an antihypertensive, meaning they cause a drop in blood pressure when taken. With that in mind, the poppers user should take care what other substances he combines with alkyl nitrites. If another drug also causes a drop in blood pressure, it may be inadvisable – for safety reasons – to take that drug when also using poppers. Other antihypertensives include Viagra and similar erection drugs, as well as beta-blockers and many diuretics. When using poppers, it is also best to avoid drugs that stress the heart, such as cocaine, speed, and ecstasy.

Room Odorisor and UK Law

Under UK law it is legal to sell poppers, but not for the express purpose of using them as an inhalant. For this reason, poppers are sold as room odorisors, leather polish, and others.
